Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is an international airport in the capital of the state, Austin, Texas. It is Class C airport that is serving the Greater Austin metropolitan area. It lies 5 miles of southeast of Downtown Austin, covering a land area 4,242 acres. It is comprised of runways and helipads. Its name has been coined after an officer who was with the 19th Bombardment Group, Captain John August Earl Bergstrom. Its location used to be the old site of Bergstrom Air Force Base. It has opened for public use on May 23, 1999 replacing the Austin’s Robert Mueller Municipal Airport.
