This airport is owned by the Clarke County of Georgia state and is an airport of public-use. Built on a land three nautical miles east of the central business district of the city called Athens, the airport got its name from the first aviator in the state.
Spread over a total land area of 425 acres, the airport owns two asphalt paved runways. It is more often used for general aviation purposes but one airline called Georgia Skies also operates at the airport providing flights to the Atlanta Hartsfield International airport (Atlanta) on daily basis.
